Most of us live under some form of constant stress; stress is becoming such an epidemic that some studies indicate 4 out of every 5 doctor visits are for stress-related complaints. Our body is designed to respond to stress by releasing chemicals into the blood which increases our heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension. These reactions are beneficial when escaping a dangerous situation. Unfortunately our body can’t differentiate between the stress from sitting in traffic versus the stress from running from a bear. The response from our nervous system is the same. Chronically high stress levels can become problematic, leading to headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, digestive disorders, poor concentration, anxiety and depression.
Our acupuncturists provide a gentle approach to treating stress and anxiety, with many people experiencing a restorative nap during treatment. For those already receiving pharmaceutical medications, acupuncture can be a great adjunctive therapy.
